Business Process Management

Business Process Management (BPM) is a business transformation and continuous improvement discipline which includes activities such as workflow capture and modeling, business process analysis using Lean Six Sigma techniques, value stream mapping, statistical analysis of key performance indicators (KPI), analysis of process bottlenecks for the ultimate goal of positively transforming how businesses do business!

BPM is an effective solution for various simple and complex business problems, such as reducing operation costs and waste, improving quality and decreasing process variances. Business managers are concerned about improving processes, however, often times they don’t know which factors need improvement. The key to successful BPM is determining which factors are most significant to effectively improve processes.

BPM evaluates current processes and workflows, IT assets, organizational roles and applications to determine the best course of action for value creation and competitive advantage. Simply analyzing business processes does not provide enough information. Business process or workflow analysis examines processes using various techniques such as Lean Six Sigma and provides alternatives to reduce time, cost, steps, variation, waste and other factors important to the organization. Capturing existing processes in BPMN, performing value stream mapping and statistical analysis provide critical insight into key factors that help improve business processes. Based on the analysis, business processes can then be incrementally improved or completely reengineered. Business processes, especially in the process-oriented industries, directly affect P&L for the organizations.

We follow proven Lean Six Sigma (DMAIC) methodology customized for each unique situation to reduce waste, eliminate business process variances and increased speed in the core end-to-end business processes to achieve the desired goals. Lean Six Sigma DMAIC is a five-step process:

· Define problem, develop strategy, AS-IS process map, SIPOC, VOC and establish business goals

· Measure key metrics, value stream maps, acquire data, take measurements

· Analyze measurements, process bottlenecks or ‘time traps’ and root cause

· Improve process i.e. develop TO-BE process and implementation plans, deploy pilot, perform risks assessments

· Control TO-BE process variances, define SOP and controls, transfer process ownership

Once business processes are analyzed, reengineered, simulated and improved, they can then be automated using COTS BPM products. Leveraging our years of experience in business process analysis and automation, we can help clients with the BPM product evaluation and appropriate selection.
